Restoring Upland Gully Woodland webinar
East Wicklow Rivers Trust and Wicklow Uplands Council delivered a webinar focused on our Upland Gully Woodland Community Climate Action Project for Earth Day 2025 in collaboration with An Óige - The Irish Youth Hostel Association.
This webinar explored how nature-based solutions can help tackle the climate crisis, with a spotlight on gully woodland planting in the Wicklow Uplands. These interventions don’t just slow the flow - they offer a host of co-benefits, support biodiversity, ecological connectivity, help stabilise local temperatures and stabilise river banks.
The key takeaway? It’s all about the 'right tree in the right place'. Thoughtful, informed site-specific action is essential.
It’s been a pleasure to work alongside informed professionals who use a scientific evidence base to guide action — and to partner with engaged communities and landowners. It’s this collaboration that makes projects like this truly impactful. Looking forward to building on this work for even greater environmental resilience in the uplands.
If you weren't able to join us on the night, we hope you will enjoy the recording of this short (35 minute) webinar!
Thanks to Wicklow County Council and Community Foundation Ireland for funding and supporting the project, and to Local Authority Waters Programme who support the work of Wicklow Uplands Council and East Wicklow Rivers Trust.
