Dam Removal Day Report
Dam Removal Day 2025 projects across Europe
Dam Removal Day (DRD) is a celebration observed across Europe, focusing on the significance of free-flowing rivers. This day serves to emphasise the necessity of river restoration and to promote awareness regarding the advantages of eliminating outdated barriers that disrupt aquatic ecosystems.
We were delighted to see our recent event at Ashford Community and Heritage Centre on October 8th, was featured in the DRD 2025 Report and mapped for World Dam Removal Day by Dam Removal Europe.
In total, 45 events across 30 countries commemorated the liberation of rivers and demonstrated the beneficial effects that barrier removal can have on biodiversity, local communities, water quality, and climate resilience. These activities drew local attention to rivers, motivated action, and linked participants to the broader movement advocating for river restoration.
